Marvin D. Nathan | Houston Attorney | Nathan Sommers Jacobs

“To represent our clients well, we have to be able to see around the corner - not just straight ahead.”

Inspiration and experience

Near the end of law school, Marvin Nathan heard the United States Solicitor General speak about the Civil Rights Movement and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. It was one of the defining moments of Marvin's life. It inspired Marvin to become a trial lawyer in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he investigated and prosecuted several significant cases before he returned home to Houston and founded the firm.

Marvin's fierce, passionate and unwavering devotion to his calling as a lawyer and duty to his clients is the cornerstone of Nathan Sommers Jacobs' approach to practicing law. Marvin inspires and challenges all the firm attorneys to perform to the best of their abilities every day and to treat each client and each matter with an equally high degree of commitment and passion.

Today, Marvin practices primarily in real estate, general corporate and business organization law. Marvin represents developers, buyers, sellers, landlords, tenants and owner's associations in all aspects of residential and commercial real estate matters, and formulates strategies for resolving all types of business and other disputes. Marvin values the importance of not only precisely papering a deal for clients, but also providing sound, sage and thoughtful advice to his clients, friends and colleagues.

Many of Marvin's clients depend on Marvin as a trusted counselor to advise and guide them, whether in formulating business strategy, engaging in a dispute in court or navigating a personal dilemma. Marvin is a native Houstonian and he has represented up to three generations of family clients. That kind of mutual respect and devotion between a lawyer and his clients is rare in today's world, but is a bedrock principle of Nathan Sommers Jacobs.
